Backyard office, side-business workspace, or remote location
If your home office is at the kitchen table or a corner of the basement, this gets you out. Drop the unit in the back yard, the back lot, the gravel pad behind the shop, or a remote acreage. $19,999 for the standard 20′ build — moves with you if you relocate, resells if you outgrow it.
Who's actually buying these
Solo accountants, attorneys, designers, consultants, software folks. 160 sq ft of separated workspace with insulated walls, real climate control, and a steel door that locks when the workday ends.
Etsy shops, online resellers, small e-commerce. Get inventory out of the basement, work out of a dedicated space, deduct it cleanly on Schedule C.
HIPAA-conscious separation from the household. Soundproofing add-on available. Steel door + deadbolt keeps client files secure.
Drop it on the back 40. Generator hookup (+$450) makes it work off-grid. Insulated and heated for cold-weather use.
Setting it up at home
- Permits: in most rural and ag-zoned areas, no permit needed — the unit is equipment, not a structure. Municipal zoning varies; we'll help you check.
- Foundation: a level gravel pad is enough. No concrete, no excavation. Unit rests on the original container corner castings.
- Power: licensed electrician runs supply from your house panel (or a sub-panel) to the unit's exterior service inlet. Half-day job typically.
- Internet: Wi-Fi extender or dedicated cabling from the house works. For remote acreage, satellite (Starlink) works well.
- HOA / deed restrictions: read those first. Some HOAs prohibit visible container structures. Vinyl wrap (+$4,500) can make it look like a finished outbuilding if needed.
